Java 9: The Quest for Very Large Heaps – JavaOne 2016

We’ve made a video of the presentation that was delivered originally on the JavaOne main stage in 2016 by Antoine Chambille, our director of R&D and Bernard Traversat, VP of Software Development for the Java SE Platform at Oracle. For this recording, Amir Javanshir, Principal Software Engineer at Oracle, has replaced Mr. Traversat.

The video dives into the results of our partnership with the Java team as part of the development of Java9. In particular, it details some milestone improvements to garbage collection coming in Java 9, unlocking the potential for large memory applications, up to several dozens of terabytes.

The topics discussed include the G1 Garbage Collector, Off-Heap Memory, NUMA (Non-Uniform Memory Architecture) and Multi-version Concurrency Control (MVCC), among others.

Enjoy!
